How to read Just Eat reviews, and how Just Eat ratings work for restaurants

Updated 1 October 2026 · 3 minute read

Just Eat's rating system works differently from Deliveroo's and Uber Eats'. Understanding how it's calculated tells you what actually moves your score.

Short answer: Customers rate each order on quality (1 to 5 stars) and delivery (three options worth 1, 3 or 5 points), weighted equally. Your public rating is the median of all your order ratings from the past 12 months. Only the overall rating is public; written comments are seen by Just Eat and you, not other customers.

How each order is scored

  • Quality: rated on a 5-star scale.
  • Delivery: three options, disappointing (1 point), alright (3 points) and amazing (5 points).
  • The two are averaged with equal weight to give the rating for that order.

How your overall rating is worked out

Just Eat uses the median of all your order ratings from the past 12 months, not the average. It says this better represents the typical experience and protects you from the odd extreme rating. Ratings older than 12 months drop out, which is why a restaurant can have reviews but no rating showing.

What customers can see

Only your overall rating, shown as stars and a decimal such as 4.5, is public. Written comments are visible to Just Eat and to you, to help you improve and follow up complaints, but not to other customers.

What that means for you

  • Because it's a median, one bad night won't sink you, but a pattern will. Read your comments for the theme.
  • Delivery counts for half of each order's score. If you deliver yourself, packaging, timing and driver handover matter as much as the food.
  • Comments aren't public, so they're honest. Treat them as free research.
