Why your rating matters so much
- Deliveroo says restaurants with good order ratings appear higher up the list. Your rating is the average of your last 400 ratings, and it shows once you have 10 rated orders.
- Uber Eats names higher ratings as one of the factors in its rankings, and its Top Eats badge needs a rating of 4.8 or more.
- Just Eat ranks businesses that win repeat customers and get orders right higher, and those are the same things that drive good ratings.
Step 1: find your pattern
Read your last 30 low ratings and reviews, and tally what they mention. Often one or two problems account for most of them. Fix the biggest one first.
Step 2: fix the usual causes
Cold or soggy food
Use vented packaging for fried food, keep hot and cold items in separate bags, and set a maximum time an order can wait before a rider collects it.
Missing or wrong items
Use a two-step check: one person packs against the ticket, another checks the bag before it's sealed. If you're being charged for refunds you don't think are fair, see how to dispute refunds.
Slow delivery
Set your prep time to what you really achieve at busy times. A slightly longer, honest prep time beats late orders.
Poor value
If reviews say portions are small, make portion sizes clear in the item description, or offer a larger size.
Step 3: remember it takes time
On Deliveroo, 400 ratings make up your score, so improvements show gradually. Keep the fixes going for several weeks before judging whether they're working.
How each app works out your rating
The three apps calculate ratings differently: Deliveroo averages your last 400, Just Eat uses the median of the last 12 months, and Uber Eats weights the last 90 days. See Just Eat ratings explained and Uber Eats ratings and replying to reviews.
